Building a brand rooted in
the importance of community.
NAPPY HEAD CLUB
Role: Founder, Creative Director
Agency: N/A
OBJECTIVE–
Build a community-led brand from the ground up, creating a strong visual identity and compelling storytelling to resonate with a deeply engaged audience.
As the founder and creative director of NHC, I developed the brand’s look and feel, establishing a visual language that prioritized minimalism and centered the people themselves as the brand’s visual ID. I led creative direction across multiple campaigns, overseeing concept development, casting, photography, and production. I built and managed teams of cinematographers, photographers, and stylists to bring these campaigns to life. Through a balance of strategic storytelling and impactful design, I shaped a brand that not only gained national recognition but also fostered a loyal and passionate community.

The first step in the process of building the brand was to develop the brand mark. I focused on a clean, minimalist aesthetic which is a departure from the ornate, and sometimes African-inspired imagery often employed for brands targeting AA consumers. This sleek approach created a distinct lane for NHC that merged a streetwear POV with a community mission.

Building the Nappy Head Club community was an exercise in both strategy and storytelling. I crafted a highly curated social presence that blended aspirational imagery, shareable cultural moments, and conversion-driven content, creating a dynamic and engaging feed. By maintaining a strict adherence to our bold yet minimal color palette, I ensured a sleek, elevated aesthetic that set the brand apart in a crowded space. This approach resonated, rapidly growing our audience to 50K at its peak and fostering a loyal, engaged community.
Our impact extended beyond social, earning national recognition—features in Vogue and Essence, multiple grant wins, and collaborations that cemented Nappy Head Club as more than a brand, but a movement.
